Victory in San Diego

San Diego Crew Classic: A Golden Performance

What a weekend for the Olden Bears last month! We descended on San Diego with a formidable fleet of boats, making our presence felt across the board. A huge thanks to the Cal mens and womens programs for the equipment. We raised sizable donations for Cal Crew, but beyond the support for our young athletes, one other highlight was the stellar performance of our Women’s Masters C boat, who took home a huge trophy in their category.

Seeing the depth of talent and camaraderie across all our OBRC crews was a seasonal high point. This success has us looking toward next year with even bigger ambitions—we want to expand our roster even further and bring even more Olden Bears to the starting line.

Upcoming Regattas: The Summer & Fall Slate

While we celebrate our wins in the sun, it’s time to look toward the next challenges on the horizon:

  • Masters Henley (July): We’re heading across the pond! Final preparations are underway for one of the most prestigious events on the Masters calendar.

  • Master's Worlds in Bled, Slovenia (September)

  • Head of the Charles (October): The big one. This remains a critical race for our club. We are aiming to field upwards of 10 boats this year, including:

    • A high-performance Men’s Alumni boat.

    • A competitive Men’s 30+ crew.

    • The Women’s 30+ victors from San Diego.

    • Multiple Men’s and Women’s 50+ and 60+ crews.

    • Redemption for our Men's 60+ who did not get the lottery last year

    • Will we see Coach Scott Frandsen participate again in the 40+ crew?

Action Required: HOCR Logistics

The logistics for the Head of the Charles —moving a dozen boats and scores of athletes to Boston—are incredibly complex. The entry window opens in May, so we need an accurate headcount immediately to finalize our entries and housing.

If you intend to race, you must sign up now.
